Edmonton, AB - The Art Gallery of Alberta received a generous boost to the capital campaign for the New Vision building project this week. Prem and Saroj Singhmar donated $1.2 million in support of the new expanded education centre. In recognition for the donation and the Singhmar family’s significant community leadership, the education facilities at the new AGA will be named the Singhmar Centre for Art Education. The new Singhmar Centre for Art Education represents the AGA’s commitment to the presentation of the visual arts in Canada, referencing both western and non-western, old and new cultural approaches.

Edmonton, AB - The Art Gallery of Alberta is pleased to present Works of a Renaissance Master: The Prints of Albrecht Dürer from the National Gallery of Canada on view from August 23 to November 2, 2008. This exhibition is an extraordinary opportunity to view over 50 original works by painter and master printmaker Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528). Rarely exhibited due to their fragile nature, these works date from the late 1400s and early 1500s and span Dürer’s career as a leading printmaker in the Renaissance in northern Europe. Dürer is arguably one of the world's most famous artists. Among the celebrated works featured in the exhibition are Dürer’s masterpieces The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1496-1498), Adam and Eve (1504), The Knight, Death and the Devil (1513) and Melancholia (1514).
