Edmonton, AB. – Edmonton’s Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) will throw open its doors to visitors free of charge on Canada Day, thanks to TELUS.
TELUS has partnered with the Art Gallery of Alberta to provide Edmontonians and anyone else in the city on Canada Day with free admission to the gallery on Sunday, July 1. TELUS Day gives families a chance to explore the gallery’s new exhibitions and take part in hands-on activities that are both fun and educational.
“Canada Day is one of the most popular days for families to visit the AGA,” said Tony Luppino, executive director of the Art Gallery of Alberta. “It is wonderful to be able to ensure that access is open to everyone thanks to the support of great patrons of the arts like TELUS.”
TELUS Day will be the first Canada Day at the AGA’s new interim gallery at Enterprise Square. The interim gallery features 11,000 sq. ft. of museum quality exhibition space plus colourful new studio classrooms right in the centre of downtown Edmonton.
“TELUS is thrilled we can help families experience our city’s arts and culture in a hands-on way at the Art Gallery of Alberta,” said Nick Culo, TELUS vice-president Public and Community Affairs. “It’s a great way to celebrate our nation’s birthday.”
About Canada Day at the AGA
The Canada Day exhibitions at the AGA focus on creativity in Alberta and Edmonton with new art and legendary architecture. Capital Modern: Edmonton Architecture and Urban Design 1940-1969 presents the city’s hidden gems of Modern architecture through the spectacular photography of James Dow, archival photographs, historical models, and plans. You’ll never look at Edmonton the same way again after seeing Capital Modern! In the other gallery spaces, the AGA presents the 2007 Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art, a showcase for emerging and established artists. From all parts of Alberta, representing diverse cultural backgrounds, 22 artists were selected from over 100 submissions. The work reflects the complexity of life experience and is presented under the theme Living Utopia and Disaster. More about the AGA is online at www.artgalleryalberta.com.
