Edmonton, AB. - The Art Gallery of Alberta presents The 1950 Ford Show, guest-curated by Anthony Easton and running from September 22-January 6, 2008. Opening reception on September 21 at 7 pm.
Imagine an exhibition that appeals to both art lovers and car enthusiasts. Edmonton artist and curator Anthony Easton has managed just that with the exhibition The 1950 Ford Show. Easton takes American Pop-Conceptualist, Ed Ruscha at his word. Ruscha’s 1977 drawing: WILL 100 ARTISTS DRAW A 1950 FORD FROM MEMORY plants the seed that Easton cultivates by actually soliciting 100 artists to materialize Ruscha’s Conceptual fantasy. The Art Gallery of Alberta will showcase 100 drawings by local and international artists, which range from café sketches through pop-commix renditions to highly crafted illustrations. The ensemble makes for a delightful installation, reasserting the primacy of mark-making and reconsiders the Conceptualist impulse in contemporary art.
