TOTI: Tour de France exhibition exclusive to Art Gallery of Alberta: week-long exhibition only North American showing before paintings sent to France
Edmonton, AB - Toti, an artist well-known in Edmonton for her affectionate paintings of the city, will be exhibiting her Tour de France series of works at the Art Gallery of Alberta from June 12–21, 2008. This exhibition will feature three large paintings of the 2005 Tour de France bicycle race, during which Lance Armstrong won his seventh consecutive race. This will be the only North American exhibition of these three works before the paintings return to France for the 2008 Tour de France race.
Toti spent the past four years preparing for and painting the historic 2005 Tour de France bicycle race in three large canvases, measuring seven feet by four feet. She has been invited back to France in 2006 by Christian Prudhomme, President of the Tour de France, so she could complete her research and finish her paintings. After this exhibition, the works will travel to France for the 2008 Tour de France race.
Toti, an Edmonton-born painter, studied at St. Martin’s School of Art in London, and her works can be found in national and international collections, including UNICEF Switzerland, Canadian Pacific and the Amaury Sports Organization in France. Toti is internationally celebrated for her affectionate portrayals of beloved urban spaces and her important role in documenting and interpreting important historical events and places, particularly those of Edmonton.
Members of the media are invited to join Toti for a special preview of the work and reception on June 12, 2008 at 6 pm at the Art Gallery of Alberta.
