School Tour and Studio programs at the Art Gallery of Alberta are developed to help build bridges between art works and those who view them. In these programs, which encourage ‘active looking’ and creative making, professional Gallery Educators facilitate a process where participants slow down and engage with works of art. Tours are designed to stimulate dialogue, facilitate questions, generate multiple interpretations and promote critical thinking skills. Tour programs allow time for deeper looking and the development of ‘active’ observational skills. Studio programs extend this philosophy of ‘active looking’ with inspirational hands-on projects.
School programs are designed to support and address the Alberta Education Art Curriculum. In addition, cross curriculum connections are stressed in order to assist teachers in developing an integrated approach to learning.

Tour programs at the AGA are not just for school students—people of all ages are invited to experience art and express their creative selves as well! The AGA is pleased to present one hour guided tours for adult groups. These tours, conducted by professional Gallery Educators, examine both the AGA’s collection and current exhibitions and offer insights into art styles, trends and specific themes as expressed in exhibitions.
