Public Programs at the AGA help contextualize our exhibits through hands-on activities, lectures and panels, special screenings and performances. There are a wide range of programs designed for all ages and interests including:
The Inside Art Lecture Series gets it’s inspiration from the major exhibitions presented at the AGA, and brings prominent writers and thinkers to Edmonton to present a range of perspectives on art and how it’s contextualized. The purpose is to inform our community of the latest intellectual trajectories in the production, interpretation and dissemination of art, and to put those ideas to the test through direct exchanges.
Once each month the AGA hosts HSBC All Day Saturday, an afternoon filled with art adventures for people of all ages. Programming is designed to compliment current exhibitions and can include hands-on art workshops led by local artist Davey Thompson, exhibition tours with AGA educators, Artists’ Talks, Curator’s Tours and film screenings.
Artists' Talks
These special talks are given by artists whose work is featured in current exhibitions. Artists’ Talks allow you to gain insight into creative processes, test theoretical assumptions and respond directly to new work and exhibitions in an informal atmosphere.
Curator's Tours
These walk-through tours offer an 'insider's view' of the background knowledge of profiled artists and their work, and insights into the curatorial logic used to organize the exhibition. Like Artists’ Talks, these tours give people the opportunity to respond directly to new work and exhibitions in a more casual setting.
Hands-On Art Workshops
Inspired by current exhibitions, these workshops feature art projects for the whole family to make and take home. Projects are led by a local artist and all necessary supplies are on site.
Exhibition Tours with AGA Educators
Tours are a great way to enhance your experience of exhibitions. Educators facilitate your engagement with artworks by offering historical and theoretical background on current exhibitions and the artworks they feature. By also presenting an opportunity to ask questions, tours allow you to explore the impact that art has on your life.
Most exhibitions at the AGA feature associated programming, created to compliment and/or challenge the theme of a given exhibition. Examples of exhibition related programming include round tables, symposiums, performances and other, usually collaborative, events.
